As some of you know, today is my birthday. Today is also a day when I’ve cried a bit. WTF is coming on strong, especially in my arms, today. Using a camera, the mouse, etc., has made a normal Sunday Post just a bit out of my reach.
But then I thought, HEY! I like to boss you people on my birthday! So YOU do the freakin’ Sunday Post!
Leave me a quote and/or a favorite verse from the Bible or your sacred book. Yea, I’m liking this idea . . .
Love you guys. I’m not quitting. I’ll be back (spoken like The Terminator).
It’s your birthday? and so close to Mr. Jif’s, and the New Year, too.
My Latte salutes each of you……
It couldn’t be a birthday without a little something from the good Dr. Seuss
If We Didn’t Have Birthdays
If we didn’t have birthdays, you wouldn’t be you.
If you’d never been born, well then what would you do?
If you’d never been born, well then what would you be?
You might be a fish! Or a toad in a tree!
You might be a doorknob! Or three baked potatoes!
You might be a bag full of hard green tomatoes.
Or worse than all that…Why, you might be a WASN’T!
A Wasn’t has no fun at all. No, he doesn’t.
A Wasn’t just isn’t. He just isn’t present.
But you…You are YOU! And, now isn’t that pleasant!
~~ Dr. Seuss
Happy Birthday!
*thinks he betta stop there, since he enjoys picking on quotes so much*
Here’s a quote I ran across last month and liked very much. (Of course I have to leave a bird quote!) Feel better, Susie. *HUGS*
“Science will never isolate or explain the special hold birds have on the hearts of men and women. But perhaps in trying to understand birds, we somehow feel closer to grasping the mystery of our own creation and evolution. Perhaps there is a bit of the migrant in each of us, and birds symbolize the freedom we envy but can rarely find. Of one thing I am sure: In our awe at the mystery and wonder of birds, at those powers so far beyond our understanding, we feel a humility that all too seldom graces the human spirit.”
– Allen Fisher
The universe is unfolding perfectly.
I don’t have to hang on.
I can relax and let go.
I can go with the flow.
I trust my own process.
I always have everything I need.
I have all the love I need within my own heart.
I am a lovable and loving person.
I am whole in myself.
Divine love is guiding me and I am always taken care of.
The universe always provides.
Creative Visualization – Shakti Gawain
Happy Birthday, sister. I hope you’re feeling much better soon.
Susie, I forgot it was your birthday! WTF–Happy Birthday!
This is not from a sacred book, but is a favorite.
ROAD LESS TRAVELED
Robert Frost
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth
Then took the other as just as fair
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear
Though as for that, the passing there
Had worn them really about the same
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet, knowing how way leads onto way
I doubted if I should ever come back
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence
Two roads diverged in a wood
And I took the one less traveled by
And that has made all the difference
OOPS – sorry! The correct title of the poem is “The Road not Taken”. I knew that. Once. 🙂
WTF sucks. Happy Birthday honey. I don’t have a great quote or a good story for you but I will tell you that I was recently labeled a Marine savant! Yea, go ahead, giggle. There’s a story there. Next time you need a laugh, I’ll share. Now, EAT CAKE!
Hi Susie.
No quote but wanted to wish you all the very best love and health for the comng year.
Keep your chin up… hey, maybe that is a quote.
Since this all started on your birthday, it is my dearest wish that it will end just as it started with today being the day.
Hugs and love to you my friend.
Happy Birthday
I wondered about you when there was no post this morning. Sorry you’ve been feeling poorly–it’s not fair ever, but especially on your birthday.
Two quotes that my friend Mr. Google helped me find, and I think you’ll appreciate them:
May you live all the days of your life. ~Jonathan Swift
Inside every older person is a younger person –
wondering what the hell happened. ~Cora Harvey Armstrong
Happy Birthday, Susie!
My favourite quote is from Germaine Greer: The struggle which is not joyous is the wrong struggle.
It has helped me. I hope it does the same for you. Happy Birthday!!
Pink
I wish I had a quote for you…I really do but my mind is blank. I will come back with a good one.
Here’s a good quote for you:
I would like you to dance–Birthday
Take a cha-cha-cha-chance–Birthday
I would like you to dance–Birthday
Dance!
–Lennon & McCartney, “Birthday”
Happy Birthday, Susie! I’m sorry this isn’t the best day ever, but hopefully tomorrow will be better.
This is far from any sort of revelation, but in a catalog the other day, I saw a plaque (I typed “plague” first) that read, “Be yourself. Everyone else is taken.” I thought that was pretty cool, and I just might order it!
The Shakti Gawain quote reminded me of “Desiderata” by Max Ehrmann. The whole poem is good, but I picked out this section for you:
Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
Be gentle with yourself, Susie. It’s your birthday.
Happy Birthday!
I’m sorry, Susie, that WTF is so strong on such a special day. I really hate that WTF. Sorry I don’t have a quote, but I do want to wish you a very happy birthday. Take care.
Hugs.
i love you, birthday grrrl.
the line in the Bible that seems highlighted, underlined, italicized, and bolded at all times for me, even during (and, perhaps, especially during) difficult times) is:
“my cup runneth over.” Psalms 23:5
it’s my mantra. i cry it out sometimes when i’m most in pain.
Rom 8:38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
Rom 8:39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
That’s the one I hang onto at times. (Tho I shall be stealing the visualisation quote at the top of your comments.)
Happy birthday (for yesterday)
Krikey! It’s still your birthday — for 12 minutes — in Alaska. Happy Happy Happy!!!
Now to read.
Nothing came to me, though I looked. Maybe tomorrow I’ll post. We’ll see.
Did Jesus come? If not, He should be on His way.
Love to you!
Happy Birthday, Susie!! Sorry to hear that WTF has had a better day than you….. Here’s to a better year!
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change and though the mountains slip into the heart of the sea; though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains quake at its swelling pride. Selah.
There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
The holy dwelling places of the Most High. God is in the midst of her, she will not be moved; God will help her when morning dawns.
Psalm 46:1-5.
The only little poem I could come up with at first was:
Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
I love you Miss Susie,
I really really do.
Then, I looked over at my Franklin Planner for today and saw:
“A workable measure of your progress is how fast you can get free when you are stuck and how many ways you know to get free.” — Kathlyn Hendricks
I don’t know if that helps or not, but after reading it, I thought maybe it might. If not, just read the poem I wrote twice and skip the quote. 😉
“What would you do if you knew you could not fail”
~Robert H Schuller
I often don’t do things because I over think them (thanks to the worrisome libra in me). But if I knew I would succeed would it make me go for it? I think so.
Happy Belated Birthday and tell WTF to leave you alone!
Happy belated birthday! A couple quotes…
“The great lesson . . . [is] that the sacred is in the ordinary, that it is to be found in one’s daily life, in one’s neighbors, friends, and family, in one’s back yard…”
-Dr. Abraham Maslow
“If we ever leave a legacy, it’s that we loved each other well.”
-Indigo Girls, “Power of Two”
And one for WTF:
“The trick is not how much pain you feel – but how much joy you feel.”
-Erica Jong
May your capacity for joy always overflow, Susie. And I hope you know, on your birthday, how many lives have been blessed by having come into contact with yours.
Happy B.D. I hope the day got better for you.
I don’t really think this quote is on point for you, but I like it.
“I’m a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work, the more I have of it.”
– Thomas Jefferson
Susie,
Happy Birthday! One of my favorite bible passages Ephesians 4:32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
April
Happy Birthday, susie!!! I’m so glad we can celebrate it with you. (Although, WTF gets no cake.)
Here are my words of wisdom for today:
“Never run for a bus. Especiallly one that’s going up at a 90 degree angle.” – Spongebob Squarepants
No? Okay, how about this one? “All that we are is a result of what we have thought, it is founded on our thoughts and made up of our thoughts.” – Buddha, The Dhammapada
The mail this week has brought about a pile of After Christmas Sale catalogs.
I cannot believe trees have to die for these things, it’s bad enough that forest fires take so many.
Anyway, seeing as this is the last day of my Winter Break, I’m a bit bored, and procrastinating the carrying of decoration boxes down to the storeroom, so I looked around at some brightly colored papers.
Offered on page 60 is a little magnet with a woman leaning on a mop handle suspended in a bucket, and a little brown dog acting curious.
the phrase is “….and just where is that Fairy Godmother when you need her???!”
oh yeah, the cat is making some gawdawful noises
a magic wand would be quite welcome here and now
Happy Birthday (belated -sorry-that’s so me).
A quote from Winston Churchill that always makes me smile is
“We all are worms, but I do believe I’m a glowworm.”
Bible favorite Psalm 121
I lift up my eyes to the hills. Where does my help come from? It comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth. He who watches over you will not slumber. Indeed, He who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord watches over you – the Lord is your shade at your right hand. The sun will not harm you by day nor the moon by night. The Lord will watch over your life. He will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.
Take that WTF!
A belated happy birthday to you!
As for a quote, one of my favorites is: “Blessed is the believer; he believes what he cannot see. Blessed is the lover; he believes that away which he still can see.” S. Kierkegaard
This has nothing to do with a birthday, but here’s my favorite toast: Here’s to abstinence…as long as it’s practiced in moderation.
Oh poop! I am a day late. Happy Belated. I’m sorry your day kinda sucked health-wise but I do hope you got very spoiled.
I’ll quote my favourite transvestite:
“So, come up to the lab and see what’s on the slab. I see you shiver with antici…….pation. But maybe the rain is really to blame so I’ll remove the cause but not the symptom!”
-Dr. Frank N. Furter
I know from personal experience that The Time Warp can be done from a seated position. Perfect for those days when the bod isn’t co-operating.
Oh, yay! Rocky Horror, thanks Kranki!
Oh, I thought of another one, also not at all on point but funny, after reading the fairy godmother statement (above) it reminded me of my favorite sign I saw in a store. It was out of stock but I plan on going back:
“I have flying monkeys and I’m not afraid to use them!”
Thanks, everyone. I love the variety, the diversity. You’ve given me some things to smile about, think about, work toward. xoxox
Still trying to come to terms with what’s happening to my arms, hands, and hoping it’s a temporary situation.
Here’s another of my favorites (I do like the flying monkey one!):
“Time flies when you’re having rum.”
🙂
Gawd, just don’t let LG and Jif each get a hold of an arm and hand and start smacking yourself with them… I hate it when the kids do that to me… 😉
Oh, Susie! I’m so sorry I missed your birthday! I had a helluva week last week, with sick kids and the single Mom thing, so I haven’t been around much lately. Hope your birthday was extraordinary. Love. Hugs. Prayers.
“It is not the years in your life, but the life in your years that counts.”
~Adlai Stevenson
(Of course, now I have the giggles, because when I typed it, it came out “…life in your rears…”.)
Hope WTF has taken leave of absence. In fact, I’m giving it the whole rear… er, year off. **heh**
I really like Sarah’s submission.
So I’ll ditto that:
Rom 8:38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
Rom 8:39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
I can’t understand all, but I hang onto God.
For the 12th day of Christmas, I wish for my True Love to grant you joy and peace on your birthday. (Late but still heart-felt!)
happy belated birthday! sorry wtf is being so hateful. someday it’ll all be a bad memory and you’ll still keep having birthdays! so there, wtf!
